The Minsky Mountain fish, Tanichthys albonubes, was discovered by the Boy Scout leader Tan on the Baiyun Mountain in southern China around 1930. The generic name Tanichthys refers to the special name of Tan fish, and albonubes refers to white clouds.
Extinct in the wild?
The Baiyun Mountain squid is almost extinct in its native habitat. It is believed to have been extinct for several years, but the apparent native population of this fish was found on Hainan Island, away from Baiyun Mountain.
Water condition
This fish is very cold-resistant. It will survive temperatures ranging from 4 degrees Celsius [39 degrees Fahrenheit] to 32 degrees Celsius [90 degrees Fahrenheit], but the extremes of this range are not recommended. It is more comfortable at about 16-26 degrees Celsius [60-72 degrees Fahrenheit]. This is a lower temperature than most tropical tanks, although like most cold water fish, it can be stored in tropical aquariums, so it can be stored in tropical or unheated aquaria.
Fish like clean water and grow and multiply over a wide range of pH and hardness. I will avoid extreme pH or very hard water. Be sure to remove all chlorine or chloramines.
This fish is not resistant to copper in water and requires great care if it is treated with copper.

This fish is a omnivorous animal that eats most things in the wild and is easy to feed in an aquarium, making it easy to get normal fish food. Please note that this is a small fish. Do not overfeed.
Although the Baiyun Mountain Min fish is a small mouth fish, they eat mosquito larvae and can benefit from it. They also like leeches.
Companion
Minshan Mountain Min Fish is an educational fish that is happier in at least six groups.
This fish is usually very flat and grows to about 4 cm [1.5 inches]. I have managed to succeed with a variety of other small fish including: Siamese fighting fish, guppies, stag guppies, Pristella Tetras, Lami nose Tetras, Harlequin Rasboras, Scissortail Rasboras, Lemon Tetras, Black Widow Tetras, Emperor Tetras, Head and tail lights Tetras, Glass Bloodfin Tetras, Swordtails, Platies, Mollies, Zebra Danios, Glowlight Tetras and Cherry Barbs and Corydoras squid like squid.
I will carefully put them on fish like Rosy Barbs, Tiger Barbs, Paraguay Tetras, Buenos Aires Tetras and Colombian Tetras, as these fish have been considered more aggressive.
I will avoid using bigger fish. I am often asked to keep white clouds and goldfish together. Although I know that many people have successfully retained it with a small goldfish, I don't recommend it. White clouds may be swallowed up with some danger.
Mosquito control
Although the Baiyun Mountain Min fish are not necessarily the best fish for controlling mosquitoes, they are sometimes used in South Australia because they do not eat frog eggs or mites. This means they are a possible fish in the frog pond.
If these fish are used in this way, care is needed to prevent them from escaping into the wild.
Variety
Several very popular fish have been propagated. These include long fin types called by several different names, including meteor Min fish, and the so-called golden white clouds.
Breeding
White clouds are one of the most prolific egg-laying fish. When I was a teenager, I planted white clouds in generations in a two-foot aquarium. Usually, the only thing needed to breed a few is an aquarium without other fish.
Men are brighter than women, which is more pronounced than men.
Baiyun benefits from living plants and can be used for both breeding and breeding. They are a dispersion of eggs that are usually placed on plants.
White clouds usually don't eat all the fry, although they may eat some. This is why you can raise your baby with your parents. I have observed that these species are not cared for by parents.
Pest fish
In some areas, this fish is considered a pest. If you are selling in your area, I suggest you ask for any rules at the store. In general, for any fish, do not release them into the wild, and do not leave them in ponds that may overflow, allowing fish to escape to the wild.
