If you want to hold a fitness Taekwondo class, combine aerobic and anaerobic activities with martial arts - you will want to consider the ground you are standing on. Because you will perform a lot of bounce and standing, it is important that the surface of your training provides a little bit of giving and taking to help protect the knees, ankles and back. However, you don't want the surface to be too soft, and actually do more harm than good.
A great floor for fitness taekwondo is made from sturdy EVA foam puzzle mats, just like those used in many training centers as martial arts mats. These mats are interlocked so you can move them as needed and create your own fitness map. For example, if you have enough space, you can have them run a small circle on a red mat. You can have them do kettlebell training on a black mat. How to roll and fall on a blue mat, push-ups or squats. You can even stack mats to get more fills and move them when you're done.
For example, we will cover the entire floor with a red mat. Then we have a bunch of colorful puzzle mats in the corner. When we want more mats or separate the training area by using different color puzzle mats, we can take the mat we need and create a mat on the mat.
The interlocking pads for fitness and martial arts are more than just durable foam, and I like that you can even wear shoes or perform a fitness Taekwondo course without worrying about damaging your mat. They are really versatile. You don't have to worry about skipping or even losing weight. Although you will want to keep any sharp edges away from the foam puzzle mats, as they are easy to cut. However, this will not reduce its effectiveness.
The strategy we also like to use is to cover the fitness Taekwondo area with a full-size carpet square. This gave us a cushion, but it was also a cheap carpet that looked good and easy to replace. Just pick the cheapest carpet in your store. If we want members to put their own shoes on the floor, we usually do this, otherwise they will grind the dirt onto the more difficult foam pad.
If your members only use shoes on the mat, you do not need to use a carpet cover. However, sometimes you may just want to change the look of the floor.
