Just because the slogan on the martial arts school window says "self-defense" does not mean what you are getting. A colored belt or belt outside the waist means not only that you can defend yourself when the time is right!
What should I say? simple. I can say that because...
For more than 30 years, I have been involved in martial arts and self-defense research!
I can also say this, because as a former policeman, undercover investigator and bodyguard, I must use what I have learned from various teachers who should teach self-defense skills. Moreover, I found that through the "difficult school", what works and what doesn't work - who is right and who is full of it!
What I am saying is that there is a huge difference between learning historical techniques, skills and lessons from the main warriors of the past, and learning how to use these skills to protect yourself from some of the crazy and/or brutal attacks you want. The damage of the person. Beat, break or kill you However, for most people, the difference is hard to see. Maybe this - the ignorance and lack of experience of the average student - makes it so easy for the so-called self-defense experts to teach you what to do!
This is another example that can convey this idea.
When I was in the Army, we often participated in training exercises to practice the procedures and tactics we needed in real wars. And, in these exercises - these "plays" - there will always be these soldiers - they are running in every unit - like John Wayne. They always talk hard, their chests move around, yelling, "Let's go now - now!" And, "I am going to kill a Commie for my mother", and other such nonsense.
But, do you know what these guys did on the plane, on my way to the real? They are people who cry and pray, and are afraid of fear of death.
No, hey! We are all afraid of death!
The difference is that many of us have accepted that this may happen. When we conduct live exercises - during training - we focus on getting the job done. We didn't run around, trying to convince others that we were Rambo or some super soldiers, but did our work, training and learning from our coaches - especially those who actually "go there" .
Are we complaining about our muscle injury or the fact that we are training in the cold rain? you bet. But we did it anyway.
Do we complain and hope that our leaders can do bad things because we crawl in the mud and do things we don't understand or don't want to do. absolute. But, again... we did it.
Unfortunately, many martial arts students do the same thing. Regardless of the level, they will point out others' mistakes around the dojo, or show off their skills - rather than considering how these skills really fit the real attack, not from your school or style opponent.
Also, don't avoid being hit, or having muscle aches or paying for a course - like someone with an excuse, waiting to be the next victim - do them. I said you have to like it? Not sure! In fact, if you "like" being hit, kicked, or your joints are cut off, I think you are crazy.
But this is not the focus of training. Like my experience in the Army, the focus of training is to have to endure all of these things... and still do what you have to do!
Self-defense is a mindset. This is a way of thinking about conflicts in the following ways:
Admit that there is danger and you have the right to choose Become a victim or be able to deal with what it is - painful and deadly. You don't have to like many aspects of training, just like you like to pay for car insurance. But if something unimaginable happens, you will be glad that you have it!
Assessment situation This way you can use the right technology
Applying the principles and concepts of "energy saving" and avoidance - If you don't need it, it means no fight at all. And, if you do this, try to do the least amount of damage and eliminate your own situation with minimal wear and tear. with...
Considering more than just this situation And acknowledge that further conflicts or consequences may occur as a result of your actions. Whether it's from the law or his friends at the bar - it's important to understand how to deal with your situation without causing legal or other problems. It's also knowledge and understanding, if you show off your skills everywhere - maybe someone is watching who now knows how to beat you!
If you don't know - ask. And, even if you get the answer, ask someone else! You need to choose, not just skills.
You need to understand your skills and understand the practical application of these skills in real situations...
- Under pressure...
- Only gross motor skills,...
- Against someone Do not If he can help you, let you do it!
- This is a self-defense situation - not a quarrel with the rules!
You will face an experienced attacker, he won't let you make calm actions against him.,...
Your attacker does not care about your belt, skill or confidence. because...
